Biography Booty Luv
Featuring faces you might just know and a tune you may well recognise, Booty Luv’s Boogie 2Nite is another massive house track set to cross into the charts.
You may get a surprise when you first see the video to a track that’s been getting major radio play for a few weeks now. Isn’t that those girls out of Big Brovaz singing that Tweet song? Yes, its Nadia and Cherise aka Booty Luv!
“Vocaling this has been such a cool experience,” says BB singer Nadia. “It’s different from the genre of music we normally do and that’s what we are all about, not following the ‘normal’ way of doing things,” says Cherise, who adds that the hook-up came via the renowned house label, Hed Kandi. “They contacted our label when they heard a few tracks from the new album and asked us to get involved. We both loved the track to begin with, so it was easy! The reaction has been immense.”
Indeed, for fans of R&B, the original track is an old favourite. Originally recorded by Missy Elliott protégé Tweet, the tune never managed to quite do what it deserved first time round. Now though, boasting a sexy remix, Boogie 2Nite has been getting clubbers jumping for months. “We describe it as uplifting house music,” decides Nadia. “Whenever we perform in a club, the people go wild. It’s a track you have to dance to when you hear it; it inspires people to party.”
What’s interesting about this song of course, is seeing two vocalists that are known more for pop/ R&B records rather than house. Why this track and why on a house version, we wonder? “The track was chosen by Hed Kandi. They had a couple of ideas for us to do and we went in the studio to see what worked,” Nadia recalls. “There is often a stand-out track in these types of studio sessions and Boogie 2Nite was sounding great! You get that feeling in your tummy when something sounds right and before we knew it we were shooting the video!”
As R&B and house slowly merge, you can expect to see a lot more unusual pairings, reckons Booty Luv’s Cherise. “The music scene is constantly changing. The artists dominating the charts are so diverse, people have access to such a wider range of music now with downloads. We love Scissor Sisters, we have been playing the Paulo Nutini album and the Hed Kandi Disco Classic album is really cool if you’re getting ready to party... there are so many amazing artists around at the moment, it’s hard to choose.”
Plus, the meeting of two minds clearly works. Playlisted at Radio 1 and getting serious spins in clubs around the country, Boogie 2Nite is showing no signs of slowing down. “The track is so instant,” marvels Nadia. “It’s shaping up to be a big hit and we are very excited. We have had so much fun doing it, and had such a warm reception from the new fans. People who are not necessarily into house love it. Radio have really taken to it and it’s flying up the airplay chart. It’s a really girly tune and is going down a storm; we performed at Pacha a couple weeks ago and the reaction was amazing!”
When you’ve hit on a winning formula, you would of course be crazy to try and change it. To that end, Booty Luv have more Kandi collaborations in the works. “We are planning on recording another track but details are top secret,” laughs Cherise. “But we will be out touring and promoting the track on the week of release, so you can hear us perform Boogie 2Nite and our new single Big Bro Thang. We’ve got a new album in the works, some more collaborations planned, so, yeah - the future looks exciting for us."
